Fennel Seeds – Organic whole – Foeniculum vulgare

We have Fennel growing all around the outside of Minglement. We love to see our customers removing small seeds as they walk by to enlighten their day and taste buds.  Fragrant fennel has earned fanfare since ancient Greek and Roman times. Our fennel is very very flavorful and complex. Its distinct aroma is similar to licorice yet milder. Traditionally used in Greek medicine and in perfumery. The Eclectics used it as a tonic. Great addition to teas and soups and desserts. Ancient folklore and beliefs associating it with protection, courage, and for warding off evil spirits.

The purchase of fennel seed was recorded in great quantities for the household of King Edward I. Later, the Puritans brought fennel to the “New World” as “meetin’ seeds”, which were chewed to help them stay alert and stave off the munchies during long church services.
