Hops Bulk Whole ORG. Locally Sourced

Hops Flower, Humulus lupulus – Hops are the papery green female flower cones of a vigorous twining perennial in the cannabis family.

Long before the modern craft-beer era, hops belonged to household and monastery life. In twelfth-century Germany, Hildegard of Bingen wrote that the plant’s bitterness helped keep beverages from spoiling, one of the clearest medieval explanations for why hops became so valuable in brewing.

Tender spring shoots were eaten as a vegetable in parts of Europe, the long stems were worked into cordage and fiber, and dried cones were tucked into small sleep pillows. American Eclectic physicians later used both the dried cones and their yellow resinous lupulin glands;

King’s American Dispensatory included a tincture of hops, while Finley Ellingwood placed hops among the old nervine herbs and described the strong infusion in the traditional sleep and restlessness repertoire. These are records of historical practice, not modern treatment claims.

Dried hop cones are intensely bitter, resinous and aromatic. Traditionally prepared as a covered infusion or tea, a tincture, bitter herbal blend or tucked into a small herb pillow with lavender.         4 oz. – 18.50
