Pickling Spice Organic

Organic pickling spice is a fragrant whole-spice blend used to season brines, relishes, chutneys and preserved fruits and vegetables. There is no single old formula; blends vary, bringing together pungent seeds, warming bark, berries and aromatic leaves.

Pickling is one of the world’s oldest ways of saving a harvest, with records of cucumbers being preserved in the Tigris Valley around 2030 BCE. In Appalachian kitchens, canning season traditionally filled cellars with chow-chow, dilly beans, pickled corn, tomatoes, beets, watermelon rind and cucumber pickles.

Use pickling spice for dill or sweet cucumbers, green beans, beets, cabbage, onions, green tomatoes, peaches, relishes and chutneys. Pickling spice can also flavor refrigerator pickles, piccalilli and some homemade hot sauces.         4oz.  –  $6.00
